This 108-acre addition treatment center project consisted of a comprehensive hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of multiple FEMA-regulated creeks and interconnected drainage systems impacting the subject property.
Due to the drainage network complexity, including multiple creek alignments, floodplain spillover, overland flow interaction, and broad areas of shallow flooding, a two-dimensional (2D) hydraulic model was developed to accurately represent flood behavior throughout and adjacent to project limits.
The analysis incorporated the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) Best Available Models and NOAA Atlas 14 rainfall data to evaluate existing flood conditions and delineate floodplain limits across the property. The 2D modeling approach provided a more detailed representation of flow distribution, depths, velocities, and hydraulic interaction between the various drainage features than could be achieved using traditional one-dimensional modeling methods.
This study provided the project team with a comprehensive understanding of existing flood risk and hydraulic constraints, allowing these conditions to be incorporated into site planning and development decisions while maintaining consistency with current regional hydrologic and hydraulic criteria.
